Online Music Practice Assignments

Students,

Below, you will find music that can be used to practice to earn grades.  Another resource that I would like to use is smartmusic.  To join, go to https://admin.smartmusic.com/join.  This is completely FREE!  If you are high school, your code is QUMMR-VVWUE.  If you are intermediate band, your code is A6GVR-YQDJQ.  Beginning band, your code is C3LQA-WLETE.  If you sign up, you can access hundreds of other songs, method book exercises, solos, jazz solos and for those of you in choir, you can even access choral music!  You can listen to the music before you even play it and as you play the music and get to the bottom, it will have already updated the top.  I encourage you to find a song and listen and follow along to see what I mean.  If quite a few of you sign up and really like smartmusic, give me your feedback and I may consider purchasing this resource for us to be able to use once it’s no longer free.  Please let me know if you tried to sign up and had a problem.

One more thing:  If you choose, you may browse other webpages for free sheet music.  If you find something that challenges you but is not too difficult and you would like to play it for your assignment, please email me the webpage and name of the song so I can follow along as you play to be sure you are playing it correctly.  Here are a few website examples: www.8notes.com, www.free-scores.com, or www.bandmusicpdf.org.  Although you can look at a lot of music for free on these sites, I want to encourage you to be careful.  Some of the sites have music you can buy as well.

Percussionists:  If you choose to play music but you do not have a drum at home, keep in mind that playing percussion means hitting things.  You can use two pencils on a notebook, or two empty paper towel holders on about anything (although it would be easier to tear those up), or two sturdy (not too long) sticks from your yard and play on the floor or the ground.  Be creative, but don't feel like you have to do a worksheet if you do not have a drum at your house.  If you played cymbals on a part- crash your hands together.

All Week 5 Assignments due by May 8th

High School:  Once you click on each week to open your music, scroll to the bottom to find your individual parts.  You do NOT have to sightread even though the music says sightreading.  Each week I will post which sections I would like for you to practice, record and email to me.  OR if you signed up on Smart Music, you can play one of the songs I assigned there, or you can pick a song to play as long as it’s on your playing level.

Week 5- Play from letter D to the end.

Intermediate Band: Same thing for you, once you click to open the music, scroll down until you find your part.  OR if you signed up on Smart Music, you can play one of the songs I assigned there, or you can pick a song to play as long as it’s on your playing level.

Weeks 4-5- Week 5- Etude #3, measure 46- End

Beginning Band:  Same thing for you, once you click to open the music, scroll down until you find your part.  OR if you signed up on Smart Music, you can play one of the songs I assigned there, or you can pick a song to play as long as it’s on your playing level.
