TUTORIAL10.1, 10.2 Identify, Evaluate, and Use Curriculum Resources

What students should know about Technology
Students who are in school acquire skills and knowledge so they may learn how to support themselves as an adult. Many career choices today involve technology skills that are useful to the individual as he or she begins to communicate within their office, to their clients, or among other businesses and institutions. As people continue to communicate globally, teachers and students must be able to use these tools efficiently and effectively

Review the outline for the VPS Computer Skills Curriculum and take note as to what areas of technology students are being taught and at what grade level these concepts are introduced. This curriculum is designed for students to learn the issues of technology, demonstrate knowledge and skills in different technology areas, as well as access, analyze, interpret, synthesize, apply, and communicate information.

Resources for Planning Instruction, Lesson plans and Authentic data
There are many online resources, sites with curriculum materials, tutorials and exercises for students. It takes a bit of time to review the sites that offer lesson plans and authentic data for teaching. At the end of each of these tutorials is a link to related resources so you may further your study in that competency area. Hunter library has an excellent resource for curriculum resources, upstairs above the main floor.

Create a curriculum design with a word processing application. Outline a curriculum to teach a specific subject that incorporates technology in the classroom as an enhancement of learning. Save your document to your student diskette.

  1. Go to the resources section for Curriculum sites and review some of the listings.
  2. Using an internet browser, search for examples of curriculum design that incorporate new technology like e-mail, the internet, video-conferencing, and web page design.
  3. Open a word processor and create a one page outline of a draft curriculum that covers a course of interest that also incorporates technology into the objectives of the course. Examples of using modern technology in the curriculum include:
When you have completed your curriculum outline, save the word processing document file as tut10-2.txt to the proper folder on your student portfolio diskette. Print your curriculum design outline on the local printer. Keep this in your print portfolio.

VPS School Television Resources

Local Experts
Many experts are right here in Sequoyah county and available to you as a resource for computer setup, computer maintenance, software supplies, office supplies and much more. For curriculum resources, there are many campus areas to explore, including the Media Center, High School Library, and the Technology Department Lab.

The following is a list of various local resources.
